7th Grade Literature

7th Grade Literature

WHAT WE WILL BE STUDYING:

This year we will first focus on the essential elements of a plot.  We will then read & develop an appreciation of short stories, poetry, and nonfiction.  We will conclude the year with a novel study. Students should bring their AR book with them to class everyday.  Seventh graders are required to earn 17.5 AR points per quarter. Students may check out books from my classroom library, but if a book is damaged or lost, the student will be expected to pay for the book.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Your Chromebook (Charged!)
  • A pencil
  • AR book
  • A good attitude

GRADING SYSTEM:

We will use the district grading system (100-90=A, 89-80=B, etc.).  Grades will be determined based on the following:

  • AR:  10%
  • Content Vocabulary: 20%
  • Literature: 40%
  • Content Writing: 30%

Poetry Project

Write five poems.  The style of the poems can be your choice but each poem must be a different style (haiku, limerick, sonnet, elegy, ode, lyric poem, etc).  If the poem is not a haiku or a limerick, it must be at least eight lines long.  If you still have your Conservation limerick and your Veteran’s Day haiku, those can be used for two of your required poems.

In your poems, you must show at least one example of each of the following:

  • simile or metaphor
  • alliteration
  • end rhyme
