8th Grade ELA

8th Grade ELA

WHAT WE WILL BE STUDYING:

This course will include ELA, literature, writing, grammar, and vocabulary.  Two literature units will be covered during the first semester.  The fourth quarter will be devoted to a novel study.  ELA will be the study of the English language that will enable students to become more skilled in their writing and language usage.

During the third quarter, students will complete a culminating project.  This project will include topic research, a formal essay, a power point presentation, an art project, a survey and a mathematical graph. This project is done in conjunction with other educational departments with the overall goal of showcasing the skills that students have learned throughout their middle school academic career.  The project will conclude with students presenting their topic and accompanying materials to a panel of judges.  Beginning second semester, students will receive a culminating project booklet, pacing guide, examples, due date calendar, as well as topic selections.
